Two griffon vultures which have been receiving treatment at the wildlife recovery centre in El Valle have been released back into the wild in Peña María, near the Lorca village of Zarcilla de Ramos.

The birds were taken to the recovery centre on 13th and 26th  November after they were found near Torre Guil, in Alhama de Murcia, suffering from undernourishment, and will now join other members of their species in the Lorca countryside.

Young vultures are often found suffering from under-nourishment as they leave the nest and seek new territories, lack of natural carrion a problem for the birds which live only off what they scavenge, rather than killing for themselves.
